Professional Development
The Academy is committed to providing you with a continuous learning environment to develop and enhance your capabilities and leadership. Professional development is sequenced throughout your career to impart skills and knowledge to allow you to exercise sound judgement.
This education is provided by means of professional development periods, which are sequential from basic training through to senior levels for both officers and non-commissioned members.
A development period is a timeframe in a career during which an individual is trained, educated, employed and given the opportunity to develop specific occupational or professional skills and knowledge. Development periods are distinguished by a progressive increase in the levels of accountability, responsibility, authority, competency, military leadership ability and the knowledge of operations and war.
CF training establishments and schools are responsible for the development and delivery of common professional development.

The biggest benefit was understanding my own leadership style and how to relate to different personality types that I may have to lead. I learned a lot about myself and how the CF is evolving to be a representation of society.
